Welcome to Chronically Batgirl Colours! Thanks for stopping by. I’m Batgirl aka Ali, a slightly addicted colourist in Australia.
When I was 13, I was diagnosed with depression and started suffering from at times, very severe, anxiety. One thing that helped was colouring – of course this was in 2004 and all I could colour where my younger sisters colouring books! But the seed was planted.
Now, I have what feels like a neverending lists of health issues along with my mental illness. I fractured three vertebrae in my spine twice, and as a result have severe back pain and struggle to walk at times. I’ve also had 12 abdominal surgeries for endometriosis and PCOS, so have trouble with chronic abdominal pain as well. All this has contributed to my love of colouring as an adult!
As well as my personal issues, I have personally seen the therapeutic effects colouring can have. I am a nurse – although cannot work at the moment – and have worked with people affected by dementia for a long time. The benefits were amazing to these residents- colouring is really a life changer for some people!
I started reviewing my small collection of colouring books over a year ago when I had to stop working. I was buying books online and forever being disappointed – I thought by reviewing and showing pictures, I could help abate some of that for other people! In October I started this blog dedicated to my reviews and it grows every month.
In the menu, you will find links to the book review list, curated lists such as books with black backgrounds, product reviews, colouring hints and tips, greyscale colouring (book reviews, tutorials and free images to colour) and where to find Chronically Batgirl on social media
So stick around, have a browse and let me know what you think or if you’d like me to review anything in particular – either leave a comment here or on one of our social media accounts

Thank you for sharing what made you start coloring. For me, it relaxes me when life gets too hectic
I really want to learn more about the concepts and fusion with the colouring process, love colouring my world it gives me energy and brightens up my world. I have found it is the one thing to centre my energy and calm my world and escape into wonderland.
Coloring helps me with chronic pain and my anxiety and depression too , it’s a very good way to distract the mind . Wishing you well and many low pain days ! I want to learn how to shade better and how to choose my colors
I loved to color since I was much younger, I never had enough time to sit down and really techniques. I have lots of time now, and ready to learn.
Thank you,

I also deal with Depression & Anxiety as well as Fibromyalgia & Multiple Sclerosis. Coloring is soothing & helps with pain management & tremor control. So happy to have found your blog!
I would love to learn more on the finer details of adult colouring. I have purchased Johanna Basfords coluouring books for several family members in the last 2 yrs. in fact my adult son who needs to relax has found coloring beneficial. I find it very relaxing and calmer so I get a great nights sleep. I have sent a colouring book to my pen pal of 52 yrs in Australia one as well.
Would so live to get more effects into my colouring. I didn’t know there are books to teach how to out there . Thank you.
I love to color. I have fibromyalgia chronic arthritis, depression and anxiety. I lost the love of my life and week ago my dog of 14 years Daisy Mae. I miss her so much I cry every day it’s hard to get through the day without her. Coloring helps me get thru the day. I need to learn more, someday I’d love to do a picture of Daisy. 😭
